ERSC Clinic Session I

I. Street Soccer (0-5)

II. Introductions (5-8)

  • Introduce yourself to the group 
  • Have all the kids shake hands and learn each person's name in the group

III. Shooting Technique (8-30)

Demonstrate proper shooting technique to the kids.  We will focus on the laces shot today.

Coaching Points

  • Look up at the goal before you shoot 
  • Toe down, try to curl your toes through the bottom of your shoe so your toe does not flick up during the shot
  • Strike the ball on the arch of the big bone on the top of your foot
  • Follow through on your shot

Set Up

  • Divide the players into two groups
  • Each player has a ball
  • One player starts as the goalie

Procedure

  • The first Blue player takes a couple of dribbles inside and shoots with his right foot
  • After the Blue players shoots, the first Red player takes a couple of dribbles towards the inside of the field and shoots with his left foot
  • After each shot the player's retrieve their own ball and go back to the same line
  • Go for 3 minutes then switch sides and goal keeper
  • After each round show the players the proper technique again
  • Have each player shoot from each side twice

Make It Competitive

  • You have the same set up as before, but now each team provides a goalkeeper to begin the game
  • The first person in the Red line takes a touch and shoots the ball trying to score on the Blue goalie
  • The Blue goalie tries to save the ball
  • Immediately after the shot the Red goalie jumps in goal and gets ready for the Blue shot
  • The first person in the Blue line takes a touch and shoots the ball trying to score on the Red goalie

Awarding Points

  • +1 point for good technique
  • +3 points for good technique and a goal
  • Play for 2 minutes then switch goalies and sides
  • Add up the totals for each team from both sides and the team with the most points is the winner
  • Play 2 games

IV. Turning and Shooting (30-45)

Set Up

  • Similar set up as before but now the first player in each line starts with their back to goal

Procedure

  • The Blue player with his back to goal receives a pass from his line and executes an inside of the foot Arc Turn with his right foot and takes a shot on goal
  • The Red player with his back to goal receives a pass from his line and executes an inside of the foot Arc Turn with his left foot and takes a shot on goal
  • Go for 2 minutes and switch sides and change the goalie

Make It Competitive

  • Play the same game as before, but now the turn is considered part of the technique so they have to execute the turn and the shot properly to be awarded points

V. 3v3 Transition Game Scrimmage (45-60)

Set Up

  • Two teams of 6 players each
  • Each team divides into two groups of 3 players
  • The field is 20x25 yds
  • Each team has soccer balls on their post

Procedure

  • The first 3 players from the Blue team and the Red team step onto the field
  • One player from each team that is not playing steps into goal
  • The Blue team starts with the ball
  • When the coach says go the Blue team tries to score on the Red
  • If the Red steals the ball, they try to score on the Blue team
  • If a goal is scored or if the ball crosses the end line, the team who was scored on or had the ball cross their end line leaves the field and the next group of three players from that team step onto the field with a ball and try to score
  • One of the players who is leaving the field steps into goal
  • Play games to 5 and switch teams

VI. 6v6 Scrimmage

You might not get to this because the kids are having so much fun with the transition game
