CASL 91 Elite defeats Chelsea at Disney Showcase

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- CASL 91 Elite walked away as champions of the U-16 Showcase Division in the Disney's Soccer Showcase presented by Chelsea FC at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, Dec. 27-30. The team from Raleigh, NC pulled off an upset that the young players will remember for the rest of their lives with a 2-1 win over the world-renowned Chelsea FC U-16 team. Disney/Matt Stroshane/Other CASL 91 Elite stunned the Chelsea youth team with a 2-1 win. Trailing 1-0 entering the second half, Magnus Sorensen tied the match for CASL with a header over the the Chelsea goalie at the 45th minute. Glenn Scott followed up with the go-ahead goal at the 53rd minute mark. "The goal was to reach the semifinals, which is something this group of players has not done before, but to play Chelsea FC is all they were talking about and to do so we knew we had to reach the finals," said CASL 91 head coach Rusty Scarborough. "To actually defeat them is extremely exciting and something they will cherish for the rest of their life." CASL 91 squeaked through pool play winning their first three matches by one goal each and recorded a 1-0 overtime over Solar 92 (Dallas, TX) in the semifinals. "The team worked their buns off the first couple of days and I knew they were going to have a tough time after the overtime win this morning.
